PeeWee A Summer Team

In the inaugural season of the newly formed Tri City Thunder, the U13A team qualified for the B.C. Provincials Tournament, hosted this year in Surrey B.C. (August 4-7, 2022). The tournament consisted of ten teams from the Okanagan, Northern B.C., and the Lower Mainland.

On day one, the Thunder suffered a tough loss against the eventual undefeated provincial champs from Langley. The following afternoon the Thunder found their groove with a convincing win over the host team, Surrey in five innings. The game displayed some stellar pitching by first year prospects, Liam Wise, and Tristan Currie. Along with great pitching Brayden Stephen showed his skills in the outfield with some highlight reel catches near the wall. That day, the Thunder played a second game which featured team captain, Nolan Schmidt hitting his first home run of the tournament, and a strong outing on the mound from first year ace, Ethan Leroux. Despite their efforts, the team lost 15-12 to the team from Aldergrove.

On day three of the tournament, the Thunder returned to form. Starter, Nolan Schmidt pitched four near perfect innings with a 10 combined strikeouts and Wesley Letourneau followed suit by hitting his first home run of the tournament. Twin brother Oliver was not to be out done, as he showed sharp skills in the field with some crucial outs. Strong base running which the team is known for and a hot bat by Tristan Newman solidified the dominant win in six innings over a strong team from Prince George.

When the dust settled, the Thunder fell just short of playing in the semi finals of the tournament as they lost the tie breaker to Aldergrove.

Of note, the team took part in the skills competition during the opening ceremonies which featured five players being crowned provincial base running champions. (Nolan Schmidt, Tristan Newman, Brayden Stephen, Ethan Leroux, and Tristan Currie)

Game MVP’s – Tristan Newman, Tristan Currie, Ethan Leroux, Nolan Schmidt
